The transportation industry, whether you are a driver, logistics operator, dispatcher, or warehouse worker, is a demanding profession. Ensuring safety, vehicle performance, on-time performance, proper product disbursement, and dealing with extreme volume creates a fast-paced and stressful environment. Too often we find that employers fail to recognize the inherent difficulties of the positions and environments, fail to foster safe working conditions, fail to employ managers and supervisors who treat workers fairly, and allow hostile work environments to go unchecked.
We routinely represent workers in the transportation industry who are dealing with hostile work environments and discriminatory practices based on disabilities and failure to make reasonable accommodations. We also often hear of discriminatory practices based upon race, religion, sex, age and sexual orientation. We also observe that transportation industry workers are often made to work through unpaid ‘lunch breaks’ because things get ‘too busy’. That is wholly improper and is wage theft. If you are working, you have an absolute right to be paid!
While most people do not want to have to take action against their employer, it always makes sense to know your rights so that you can evaluate whether the things you are experiencing are improper.
